Caravans and trailers wear differently to cars. They sit for months between trips, carry heavy loads on rough roads, and the running gear takes the brunt of it. We service the mechanical side of caravans, camper trailers, box trailers, plant trailers, car trailers and boat trailers from our Woombye workshop. Wheel bearings, electric brakes, suspension, couplings and lighting all get checked, and you get told what actually needs doing before any work goes ahead. If your tow vehicle is due as well, we can book both in together and hand them back the same day.

Caravan & Trailer Servicing

Servicing covers the running gear. The electrical side, including solar, batteries and DC-DC charging, sits under caravan 12V electrical. If the tow vehicle needs attention at the same time, see 4WD mechanic or our wider mechanical servicing.

Why choose AEQ for caravan and trailer work:

Most caravan specialists on the Coast are set up for bodywork, awnings and interior repairs. Running gear is the part that actually keeps you safe at 100km/h with three tonnes behind you, and that is mechanical work. Our team are qualified motor mechanics, auto electricians and ARC licensed aircon technicians working out of one fixed workshop, so a wiring fault found during a service does not become a second booking somewhere else. We also service the vehicle doing the towing. Bringing the van and the 4WD in together means one trip, one conversation, and no gap between who checked what. For businesses running work trailers, we handle them on the same schedule as the rest of your fleet.

Safety Certificates for Caravans and Trailers
AEQ is an Approved Inspection Station (AIS 12766), so we can issue safety certificates for caravans and trailers between 750kg and 4,500kg ATM. You need one when you sell, when you re-register, or when you transfer registration into Queensland. Because we are a full mechanical workshop, anything that fails can usually be repaired here rather than sending you somewhere else and back again.

FAQ:

How often should a caravan or trailer be serviced?

Every 12 months or 10,000km, whichever comes first. Bring it forward if you have been on dirt, through water crossings or the van has been sitting unused for a long stretch. Bearings and brake components are the parts that fail without warning, and a service picks up the wear before it becomes a problem on the road.

Yes. That is the main reason people bring their van to us rather than an RV specialist. We service the 4WD or ute, check the towbar wiring and brake controller, then service the van, all in the one booking.

In Queensland you need one to sell a caravan or trailer with an ATM between 750kg and 3.5 tonnes, to register one that has never been registered, or to transfer registration in from another state. Under 750kg you complete a self assessment through Transport and Main Roads instead. We carry out the inspection, and if something fails we can usually repair it and re-check it here rather than sending you elsewhere.

Both. Box trailers, plant trailers, builders trailers, car trailers and boat trailers all come through the workshop. If you run a small fleet, we can put your trailers on the same servicing schedule as your vehicles.
