Plenty of workshops can regas an air conditioner. Far fewer can diagnose a failing compressor, replace an evaporator buried behind the dash, or retrofit a system in a truck or commercial vehicle. That's the work other mechanics and even dealerships send to us. As ARC-licensed specialists with the equipment and experience for the complex jobs, we get your air conditioning genuinely fixed, not just topped up.

Signs Your Air Conditioning Needs Attention

Air conditioning rarely fails all at once. It fades, and most people put up with it for a season or two before booking it in.

Worth getting looked at if you notice:

A slow refrigerant leak is the most common cause, and it will not fix itself. Left long enough, low refrigerant starves the compressor of lubrication and turns a straightforward repair into a much larger one.

What a Proper Air Conditioning Service Includes

A regas on its own is not a service. On a system that is leaking, it is money spent twice.

We check operating pressures on both the high and low side, test for leaks using electronic detection and dye where needed, inspect the compressor clutch and drive belt, check condenser airflow and cabin filter condition, and confirm the electrical side including pressure switches and the clutch circuit.

If the system holds pressure, we evacuate it, recharge to the manufacturer's specified weight, and confirm vent temperature before it leaves. If it does not hold pressure, we tell you what is leaking before we put gas into it.

The Jobs Most Workshops Will Not Take

Evaporator replacement means removing the dash. Most workshops will not quote it, because it is a full day or more of careful work and everything has to go back together properly.

We do those jobs. We also handle compressor replacement and system flushing after a failure, retrofits and repairs on trucks, motorhomes and machinery, and diagnosis where the fault sits in the electrical side rather than the refrigerant side.

That last one is where having auto electrical and mechanical capability in the same workshop saves a great deal of back and forth.

Why AEQ for air conditioning work:

We're ARC-licensed (AU00925), which means we're authorised to handle refrigerant safely and legally, something not every workshop advertising "aircon regas" actually holds. Combined with our mechanical and auto electrical capability, we can also diagnose problems that sit outside the aircon system itself, like an electrical fault affecting the compressor clutch.

FAQ:

How do I know if my aircon needs a regas or a repair?

If it's blowing warm intermittently or losing performance gradually, it's often a slow leak needing a regas and leak check. If it's stopped completely or making noise, it's more likely a component fault. We diagnose properly rather than guessing.

Yes, we're ARC-licensed (AU00925), which is required by law to work on vehicle air conditioning refrigerant systems.

Every 18 to 24 months for most vehicles. Systems lose a small amount of refrigerant naturally, and running one low is what damages the compressor.

Bacteria and mould on the evaporator, usually with a blocked or wet cabin filter. It is treatable, and worth dealing with because the same moisture shortens the life of the components around it.

Yes. Commercial and heavy vehicle air conditioning is a core part of what we do, including retrofits and systems other workshops have declined.

Usually. Parts availability is better than people expect, and a repair is almost always cheaper than living without it in a Queensland summer.
